Re: What organize leagues/tournaments do you want to see?
macedwin:1. can bgc start a recruitment drive for female gamers who also like to play footsie? mage can have a ladies night? we dun mind organizing a miss boardgamegeek (current favorite = miss subang jaya?)... 2. sadly (for us), you see as many female gamers in spiel as guys - its evident in euro games, ccgs and hall 6 (with the exception of miniatures). and i don't see them being dragged unwillingly by some boyfriend? in fact, there are tons of them who go in female only groups! also, very nice to see many families on the weekends. and i really mean family - grandpa and grandma not just in tow, but teaching the young ones how to play and trying to beat the crap out of the teens! its really a family thing in europe. 3. actually, we not doing too badly lah... when i started playing euro games in 2003/4, i was the only guy in the group! and, we had 2 "celebreties" - sarimah (the tv host) whom some of you met one halloween gaming night; and deanna yusoff (king & i, etc). we actually tried hard to get a ex-miss m'sia (arianna) to play (since we sponsor her hubby, alex yoong), but no luck ;-( 4. i do see a lot of females in mage on weeknights though, so i'm sure there is hope.

jack208:I totally agreed... at this moment I dare say no one that we know of can unseat aanemesis in 2er Caylus.
Duh? Wat's dis la?! I finally win only one game, against *gasp* a jedi knight *gasp* . After a long training. I know of 2 hardcore Malaysians who terrorize the 2p caylus circuit on BSW - chrisyap and midnight88. Now those guys have scary win stats.

Okay! we do have competition for aanemesis. you fight in the winner brackets and we will take care of whoever drops down into the loser's bracket.

macedwin:imagine mage having a ladies night...
get some a.s.h. to bring their equally a.s.h. friends to cafe to play games once a week. likely profile of these a.s.h. are foreign students who are lonely and would gladly welcome a 'host' who allows them to enjoy themselves for a few hours, but doesn't cost them a lot (or better still, free!).
imagine what would happen if guys found out! they will definitely show up as paying guests! same thing happens in all the clubs.pubs lah... nothing new. but still works.
best thing is, gaming is more innocent and offers more opportunities to interact than pubs/clubs, where the pick-up appears "oh-so obvious". in gaming terms, guys get to play new games with a.s.h. and meet them at the same time. innocent and better than the pub/club scene and even speed dating.
spoke on this to several cafe operators, but no takers lah...
hey, i have an idea... wolfx + ce + whoever supports this idea. how about we find a cafe who wants to invest in this? their cost? sponsoring drinks/finger food for the a.s.h. once a week. their returns will be in what they earn from the guys.
The trouble with boardgames is that it is too geeky. It only attracts geeky gurls, ASH or not. BGs are perceived to be terribly unsexy and unhip. ASH gurls like fun activities like clubbing and activities where they can dress up and chat and things. One has to teach people boardgames, whereas one does not need to learn clubbing and related social activities.

Actually IRL he's midnight88. But his nickname is Ricky Lim, one of the Terasek Gamers.
Three of them were at the Halloween 07 party (you can see their pics when I upload them) but Ricky just dropped by and didn't stay. He missed the Werewolves fun. I bet chrisyap and randomhit (daniel) will be reminding him what he missed!

Hi C Mun. Good to hear from you. I thought you have given up on BGC. ![Stick out tongue [:P]](/community/emoticons/emotion-4.gif) I do not consider 'geeks' as an outcast group. In fact, IMHO the word 'geeks' is a group worth belonging to - it is a niche group. Unfortunately, 'geeks' are perceived by others (who are not in that group) to be specialised, and therefore difficult to relate to. Thus is the general social view of 'geeks'. Not gamers' view, but the general social view. Boardgames (BGs) are perceived by others to be too cerebral and thus have put many people off. I say this by experience as I have been teaching (or sometimes trying to teach) boardgames (and other games like RPGs, etc) to the uninitiated for 20+ years - med students, doctors, nurses, engineers, pharmacists, biologists, physiologists, lawyers, accountants, etc. The people who bit and conrinue to play boardgames are the people who understand boardgames for what they are. They perceive boardgames as we see boardgames. Those who did not bite cannot see boardgames as we boardgamers do - as a fun activity. Most of the gamers I introduced BG's to are men. For instance, a male doctor and his then female nurse GF - the male doctor picked BGs up, but his GF (now his wife) did not. And neither did her female nurse comrades. So I think there are certain type of ppl who like BGs and certain types who don't. They naturally like or dislike BGs. It is difficult and I hope impossible, to convince them to like BGs. Also, unfortunately, more males are into BG's. It would be a good thing if the number of male gamers is equal to or is less than the number of female gamers. Edwin's quandary as a BG distributor is how to attract more female gamers and hence attract even more male gamers. Do you have any female gamers who would like to learn and play BGs? If you do then bring them along to your next BG session - OTK or Mage.
