The trouble with boardgames is that it is too geeky. It only attracts geeky gurls, ASH or not. BGs are perceived to be terribly unsexy and unhip. ASH gurls like fun activities like clubbing and activities where they can dress up and chat and things. One has to teach people boardgames, whereas one does not need to learn clubbing and related social activities.

OOOOhhh.....you dissing the guys or the gals?

Funny, maybe you guys should set up a competitive structure then to attract people to gaming.
Then women will populate the lower echelons of gamers and start social groups that attract more women.

That much is self-evident in Chess, Scrabble and Go as far as I know.

O yes,Good Doctor,I've certainly not given up on BGC.Just moved practice and house and TM is slower than the tortoise to connect my line ....so NO phone,NO Fax,NO internet .Boohoohoo.
I concur on your theory of 'biting' the kick of boardgaming.Love it or hate it,as simple as that. It's an automated response, your brain flooded with Serotonin at the sight of a Boardgame.Playing just to entertain others wearies you with Cortisol instead.Dreadful isnt it?I've infected one particular ASH who played at OTK once and she used to play a lot of RISK.For ladies, its the commitment factor : boyfriends to wash up for while their blokes cosily boardgame(ehem, ehem) ,housework to attend to,wailing kids to put to sleep before they can safely boardgame and as King Mongkut says etc.etc.etc.Hahaha.the list goes on.Multi tasking doesnt spare us much time for this pleasure but it is certainly one exhilirating pleasure worth setting time apart for.As for bringing in more gals,ASH or not(hehehe,Wolfx, consult The Official Pimp on ASH.He will gladly advice you) ,I do work on that when I game at OTK occasionally. And my RN gals are contemplating a gang there.Ever wondered the statistics of unmarried nurses?High ...hahaha.

    Re: Ladies night

oh wow, c_mun, wolfx is now officially your best friend. remember to intro to him all the nice gals in RN, especially after he laments that lucky blokes like me don't like to bring my fiancee's friends to intro to him.

boardgames are really difficult to intro to people. unless the people you're introing to has an open mind, they will automatically dismiss it as a child's play or big boy's toys.

many times my battle with the unbelievers are lost when they have already made an opinion of what boardgames are. they rather 1)booze, 2)cyber, 3)clubbing or 4)more booze when deciding what to do. (no#5 - oogle has been left off the list for sensitive reasons)

however, i have found that if they do keep an open mind, they tend to find something that they like. light games like bang! , pickomino generally go over well for those who can't be bothered to work their grey matters after work. coloretto, citadels, pompeji, blokus and that's life! for people who like a little less luck in their game. and carcassonne, ticket to ride, for people who want to be challenged in their gaming activity. railroad tycoon and other similiar or more complicated games will find less takers.

i have found enthusiastic response from gals to carcassonne, ticket to ride and railroad tycoon so far. so i do know gals like their games.

That just gave me an idea. Why  not next time instead of OTK, us boardgamers go do something we don't usually do. Like rent a VIP room in a KTV / Club and drink till we get drunk. Huh huh? What say you guys? Of course, no boardgames allowed that night, unless its Gang Of Four or something similar that can be turned into a drinking game. Hehehe.

Also related to this line of thought, who's up for some paintball to get rid of "online frustrations". Arghh [arghh]

Or you can do what I do.. Just tag along with your girlfriend to meet up with her friends. And while they gossip about the latest Datuk so-and-so or Tan Sri X news, you can butt in and ask them whether if they like to try something fun.. Works everytime... Smile [:)]

C Mun: U are an RN? Cool, no wonder The Official Pimp was looking for doctors and nurses games.Wink [;)]. And I thought he wanted his nephew/niece to pick up medicine or something.

Now, your Risk-playing girlfriend is something new to me. I have never ever seen an adult girl play risk. I think Wolfx will like her.Stick out tongue [:P]

Going back to introducing games to ASH girls: mebbe start on party-like games like Incan Gold, That's Life, Saboteur. Make it a social thing, as opposed to gaming thing, I guess. How do you introduce games to your non-Risk-playing ASH friends?

I found out what RN means. Registered Nurse. Ooooh. I wouldn't mind more nurses like....

ok i got a buncha nurse photos but I don't think they would be appropriate to post here. Hooo hooo hooo. The previous one was already borderline moderate material.
