It was Friday the 13th so you expect only Zombies & Ghouls to visit OTK. Time to bring out the Z-games – Eaten by Zombies!, The Walking Dead, Carnival Zombie and Betrayal at the House on the Hill all seeing play tonight.
Been awhile since we got some trains & railroad games to the table so TRAINS Nite it is for tonite. There’ll be no shortage of games for this theme.. except what do you want to see on the table? Read on to see whether we think AGE OF STEAM or STEAM is the more brutal version of the game.
With 15 game titles in its list, the ALEA Big Box series became the source of inspiration for our meetup. Read on to find out which 8 ALEA titles we played tonight and which one is Stefan Feld’s Party Game.
The 2nd part of our sessrep for 10/1 where we did our first play of WILDCATTERS from Rass Games. Find out what it takes to be an oil tycoon in the turbulent 19th century.
Heavy coop ARCHIPELAGO was in play along other lighter games like BLACK SPY, ALHAMBRA and the exciting & tense JUNGLE TREASURE from Haba. The main course of the evening would be White Goblin’s ARTIFACT and Rass Game WILDCATTERS.
A night of light-medium & fun games with RA, 7 Wonders, Infinite City, Pick-a-Dog and King of Tokyo getting around the tables. We also have a group’s first play of ELDRITCH HORROR, a revisit to the First City of Catan in ELASUND and we ended with an old fave of economic-magic of SCEPTER OF ZAVANDOR.
BGC welcomed 2014 with more Essen 2013 games brought to the OTK tables as we see gamers trying to save SOS TITANIC and TZOLKIN got a run-thru with their TRIBES & PROPHECIES expansion. Old classic PUERTO RICO was on the table again while the late night session (R2) ended with Wallace’s AUTOMOBILE.

Taking opportunity of a public holiday, we set up stall to test out how good PATCHISTORY plays. Patchistory is the latest Civ game from Korea which sold out in Essen within 30-45 min. Find out if it’s as good as the hype. We also saw RIALTO on the table tonight.
The first of our Essen 2013 previews in preparation for our BGC Retreat. Concordia, Glass Road, Cafe Melange, Coup, Okiya, Mascarade, Legacy and Canterbury were among the games played. Find out what we think of these games.
We thought we’ll run some of last year’s Essen releases before we head off for this year’s Essen but ended doing a mix of new, old and missed games in a strange night of a “zoo with salty ginkgo tree in an odd village”. Read on to find out more, tsk tsk.
We took the downtime (stock arrivals) to test out a few newer games but also some older faves like HANSA TEUTONICA and TICKET TO RIDE. KEMET, LE PETIT PRINCE and ROBINSON CRUSOE also saw some actions. Find out what’s the buzz about Robinson Crusoe.
Time for us to pay homage to another prolific boardgame designer as we rolled out MARTIN WALLACE games for tonight’s meetup. Wallace simply has too many games for us to cover but tonight we checked four of his faves AGE OF STEAM, LIBERTE, DISCWORLD: ANKH-MORPORK and GETTYSBURG.
Back to KICKSTARTER Theme Night as we covered another three Kickstarter games tonight with FLEET (card), MANHATTAN PROJECT with THE SECOND STAGE expansion and ZONG SHI. Non-kickstarter games like ESCAPE and CARGO NOIR also were in play.
After two weeks of KICKSTARTER fun, it’s time we switch tack to another boardgame publisher known for their wargames but have lately been spinning off into non-wargames. Best known for their TWILIGHT STRUGGLE which now occupies the #1 spot in Boardgamegeek, OTK gamers took time to try out Volko’s first COIN CDG wargame, the highly anticipated ANDEAN ABYSS. Also on the OTK tables tonight were Chad Jensen’s URBAN SPRAWL and Rick Young’s LEAPING LEMMINGS.
