Twilight Struggle Digital Since we like to encourage more board face-to-face interactions, we normally do not highlight or write much about digital version of boardgames (be it iPad or online). However recently GMT has announced it’s digital Windows PC (only) edition of it’s hugely popular game (and currently […]
ESSEN SPIEL 2012. The boardgame exhibition that pauses every gamer’s October calendar. Boardgamecafe.net was there for our first time this year. Find out what did we do on the Day Before the event as we arrived in Essen via Berlin.
A shorter list than the previous “A” list, the popular games in this list have to be Bang, Battlestar Galactica, Bohnanza and my personal fave of the list BRASS. For those with poor memory, you might want to take a look at Busen Memo. Hehe.
The 2nd part of the “A” list of boardgames included top games such as Automobile, Antiquity, Advanced Squad Leader and Axis & Allies. Read more and find out which of these games are my fave? ๐
The first of the alphabets produced some really heavy hitters namely Acquire, Age of Steam, and Agricola. Find out more about these games in the first part of the “A” list.
The “1” list in CK’s library. Find out why 7 Ages can be a priceless experience…
Beside organizing free & open boardgaming meetups regularly in the Klang Valley, Boardgamecafe.net have always been keen to get everyone together once in a while for a weekend retreat of boardgaming! After a very successful retreat back in 2006 (which was co-organized with Imagine Games), Boardgamecafe.net now brought you our very own (first) BGC Boardgamecafe Retreat which was held at 6,000 ft above sea level in Genting Highland’s First World Hotel (GICC).
This week we return to arguably the first boardgame cafรฉ in Msia – MAGE CAFE in Damansara Jaya – as we seek to find out who shall be our 9th and 10th Finalists. Two rounds were played – Germany first, then China – read on to find out what Ribena Lychee has to do with Power Grid. ๐
The OTK meetups continued to grow with 5 tables during R1 and 4 tables in R2! The Hacans were so curious about the OTK sessions they sent their Queen the Merciful to come look-see for shark food! On this nite, we appointed two Russian Power Grid Tsars. Other games in-play were Battlestar Galactica (Exodus), Power Grid: Russia, Citadels, FITS, 7 Wonders, Sneak & Snitches, Race for the Galaxy, Homesteaders, Navegador, Mines of Zavandor, Carcassonne, Nightfall.
After a tour of Qualifiers hosted by newly set-up boardgame cafes, we are honored to be back among one of the oldest game shop to premier in M’sia – WOLF GAME SHOP. Only the brave lurks in the lair of the wolf, and with rumours of Empress Hacan the Merciful making a return from her Catan slumber, we were all set for an explosive qualifier!
Four Finalists now confirmed. Setapak is a relatively new ground for Boardgamers as most of them are centered in Damansara/PJ area so it’s said only a fierce dragon will dare cross over the river. Find out what happpens when Dragon Kev crosses over to the Setapak waters to compete with 5 local incumbents in the latest Power Grid Qualifier.
Another good meetup at OTK seeing games like Hansa Teutonica, Forbidden Island, Horse Fever, Navegador and the introduction of new games that are hard-to-pronounce, The Speicherstadt. Boom Town, an old fave also made an appearance!
