BGC welcomed 2014 with more Essen 2013 games brought to the OTK tables as we see gamers trying to save SOS TITANIC and TZOLKIN got a run-thru with their TRIBES & PROPHECIES expansion. Old classic PUERTO RICO was on the table again while the late night session (R2) ended with Wallace’s AUTOMOBILE.
Read all about MADEIRA in the first play of this Essen 2013 release in Malaysia at OTK last December. Three other Essen 2013 games – BANG THE DICE GAME, ORIGIN and CAPPUCCINO – and some old faves like PUERTO RICO, TICKET TO RIDE. Adios to a great 2013 of gaming!
ORIGIN was on the table tonight while we also bring back an old fave AGE OF EMPIRES III to test out the BUILDER expansion
A Black Friday meetup saw some of the recent Essen ’13 games hitting the OTK tables including the recent Queen kickstarter DARK DARKER DARKEST. Find out how this zombie game plays.
Taking opportunity of a public holiday, we set up stall to test out how good PATCHISTORY plays. Patchistory is the latest Civ game from Korea which sold out in Essen within 30-45 min. Find out if it’s as good as the hype. We also saw RIALTO on the table tonight.
The first of our Essen 2013 previews in preparation for our BGC Retreat. Concordia, Glass Road, Cafe Melange, Coup, Okiya, Mascarade, Legacy and Canterbury were among the games played. Find out what we think of these games.
We thought we’ll run some of last year’s Essen releases before we head off for this year’s Essen but ended doing a mix of new, old and missed games in a strange night of a “zoo with salty ginkgo tree in an odd village”. Read on to find out more, tsk tsk.
We took the downtime (stock arrivals) to test out a few newer games but also some older faves like HANSA TEUTONICA and TICKET TO RIDE. KEMET, LE PETIT PRINCE and ROBINSON CRUSOE also saw some actions. Find out what’s the buzz about Robinson Crusoe.
Time for us to pay homage to another prolific boardgame designer as we rolled out MARTIN WALLACE games for tonight’s meetup. Wallace simply has too many games for us to cover but tonight we checked four of his faves AGE OF STEAM, LIBERTE, DISCWORLD: ANKH-MORPORK and GETTYSBURG.
Back to KICKSTARTER Theme Night as we covered another three Kickstarter games tonight with FLEET (card), MANHATTAN PROJECT with THE SECOND STAGE expansion and ZONG SHI. Non-kickstarter games like ESCAPE and CARGO NOIR also were in play.
After two weeks of KICKSTARTER fun, it’s time we switch tack to another boardgame publisher known for their wargames but have lately been spinning off into non-wargames. Best known for their TWILIGHT STRUGGLE which now occupies the #1 spot in Boardgamegeek, OTK gamers took time to try out Volko’s first COIN CDG wargame, the highly anticipated ANDEAN ABYSS. Also on the OTK tables tonight were Chad Jensen’s URBAN SPRAWL and Rick Young’s LEAPING LEMMINGS.
Extending last week’s ARTIPIA Meetup into our KICKSTARTER NITE #1 as we aim to get more kickstarter games onto the table. Which we did. GLORY TO ROME, ALIEN FRONTIERS, MARS NEED MECHANICS and GET BIT were showcased. And 18 other non-kickstarter games including two heavies in POWER GRID BRAZIL and 18TN TENNESSEE & KENTUCKY.
Back to Theme Nights with ARTIPIA GAMES hogging the limelight with BRIEFCASE, DRUM ROLL and AMONG THE STARS. Non-Artipia games also saw some play-time notably NANUK, PANIC ON WALL STREET and CHINA. This is Kickstarter Nite #0 of many more kickstarter nites to come.
No Theme night means we get to play whatever we fancy… so after weeks of harvesting, we finally got VIVAJAVA THE COFFEE GAME back to the table even if it’s just with 7. AMONG THE STARS (hinting at an ARTIPIA Theme Nite soon), TZOLKIN, SUBURBIA and ASARA were played. SPACE CADETS made a brief appearance but….
One of our quieter nights where OTK regulars meet and drink to our boardgaming friendship ala VITICULTURE! KAHUNA and RIVER DRAGONS were also in session.
No theme, just free-n-easy and more than 10 different games hit the tables from the oldies like SETTLERS OF CATAN to Knizia’s RA, the chaotic TOP SECRET SPIES, and some newer games like TZOLKIN and RIVER DRAGONS. Hmm.. Maybe we should let things go more free-n-easy in future.
Back to theme nites, this time we do the Co-operative (COOP) theme with two coop games SHADOWS OVER CAMELOT and VIVAJAVA (didn’t hit the table though). Other games in play were RISK 2210 AD, EVO, LOVE LETTER, KING OF TOKYO, CASH N GUNS and SUBURBIA.
Following two hectic Fridays of Mori & Feld, we decided on a change of pace as we went thru a nite of lighter (but no less fun) gaming tonight with Pack & Stack, Cowabunga, Fusion, Pigz Up, Cash n Guns, Libertalia and Kingdom Builder. Well, Kingdom Builder’s not exactly light-n-easy but that’s OTK for you! 🙂
