Settlers of Catan 2011 Qualifier #2 @ OTK Cheras

After the Boardgame Depot Qualifier last week, the action moves to Cheras at the legendary OTK Cheras boardgame meetup venue which is the “home” of Boardgamecafe.net. As usual, things happen here in OTK on Friday nite and to reward those who dare to brave the traffic jam to get to OTK, we’ve on display five different editions of Settlers of Catan! And what does Catan have to do with World Peace? Read on… King Philip is Fair. 😛

Settlers of Catan Tournament @ MAGACON 2011

Boardgamecafe.net is happy to bring you yet another competitive event; this time on the popular SETTLERS OF CATAN boardgame (arguably the first euro designer game that started the current trend of euro-gaming). Competition format will be similar to our POWER GRID tournament held earlier this year, and this time we’ll be hosting the Catan Finals at upcoming MAGACON event, is Malaysia’s first annual independent analog and digital gaming convention.

TERRY FOX RUN 2011 – What is your race?

We all have our own “races” to run. And our own reasons for running those races. However every year, around this time of the year, everyone puts aside their own “races” and run for Terry Fox. Come join us this Nov 13th (Sun) at Padang Merbok as Boardgamecafe.net supports the annual fund raising charity run hosted for everyone to work together to outrun cancer! There’s also the cool BGC Terry Fox Run t-shirt for you to collect!

OTK Meetup 30/9/2011

Friday’s Game Night at OTK and tonight’s no exception as we saw a variety of games hitting the tables LAST NIGHT ON EARTH, CARGO NOIR, SURVIVE, TOK TOK WOODMAN, POWER STRUGGLE, 1960 MAKING OF PRESIDENT, TIKI TOPPLE, F.I.T.S, CITADELS, and FRESCO. 18TN was the R1 game for the table of veterans with Hiew getting his first toe-dip into the 18xx series and BATTLESTAR GALACTICA resurfaced as the R2 game to close out another fantastic gaming night! And special thanks to all the gamers who helped us set up the tables & chairs earlier!! You guys are the BEST!

OTK Meetup 23/9/2011

First Friday meetup at the new OTK saw train games hitting the tables here and there with TICKET TO RIDE, RAILROAD TYCOON and 1889 SHIKOKU in play all in R1. Sid Sackson also had a good day with both his CAN’T STOP and ACQUIRE being brought to the tables. Other games seen were REPUBLIC OF ROME, HEY THAT’S MY FISH, TOK TOK WOODMAN, 20TH CENTURY, IN THE YEAR OF THE DRAGON, GLORY TO ROME, SPEICHERSTADT, NUNS ON THE RUN.

New OTK Cheras welcomes gamers – 16 Sep 2011

BGC’s new meetup place (also called OTK Cheras) opened its doors to welcome our gamers at 2pm last Friday and they stayed till 8:30 am the following Saturday. Almost 19 hrs of gaming saw the following in action: Modern Art, first play of Eaten by Zombies, The Message, Havoc, Toc Toc Woodman, Samurai, Blokus, Cargo Noir, Warhammer Invasion, Pandemic, Glory to Colorful Rome, Troyes, Havana, 1889 Shikoku Japan and DUNE. Thanks to all who made this happened!

BGC Boardgame Retreat 2011 – Day Two (The Finale)

2 Days, 16+ Hours, 20 gamers, close to 40 different games – GAME SIX now brings us to the finale of this awesome Retreat. The most talked about game TROYES receiving the closing ceremony honor on Table #1 while two of the MASK Trilogy were on the next two tables – TIKAL & MEXICA. Table #4 saw re-emergence of GIANTS, another popular game from last year’s Retreat. Five gamers (Teddy, Junyet, Lee Ching, Kareem & Daren) are still in with a chance to win this semi-competitive tourney; three of them are in Table #1. Find out who’s the eventual winner!
