As the tumultuous 2020 came to a close, it’s time to put on a reflective hat and take a quick account of last year. It’s certainly not your usual year, but it’s also not all that bad. Here’s a round-up of Boardgamecafe.net in 2020. It was a challenging year but it was also one where we’ve many things to be grateful for.
With us slowly getting back into Meetups in this RMCO period, we were glad to be able to check-off one 18xx session this month. Here’s a recap of our session last Sat where 10 ppl explored choo-choo trains in Czech Republic and Mexico.
To many, the Orient Express is a once-a-lifetime adventure given how prohibitive a ticket is. Likewise the 18OE Orient Express (one of the many 18xx titles we at OTK enjoy) could be a once-a-lifetime experience given how prohibitively long the playtime is (12hrs min?). Anyway we decided to give this game a spin on a mid-week public holiday. Read on to get a good overview of how this game plays out, and where next for the Orient Express?

A relatively quiet meetup with just one table in play, but it saw a mix of interesting games getting some table-time. Vasco da Gama as a first-play to a few of the gamers, and an old fave Wealth of Nations making a comeback and finally we close-out the night with 18Scan. Not bad for a single table session which lasted 9 hours!
This was a mid-week meetup on a Tuesday mainly due to this being a public holiday here in M’sia. There was some buzz lately on 18xx and we decided to make today an “18xx Day” with all newcomers to the 18xx game system welcomed to come and try it out! Did we manage to have some new converts?
18xx made a long-awaited comeback to the OTK tables with 18SCAN in play. Before that, the gamers warmed-up with Roll thru the Ages and LOTR Confrontation.
