SETTLERS OF CATAN TOURNAMENT @ MAGACON 2011
Boardgamecafe.net is happy to bring you yet another competitive event; this time on the popular SETTLERS OF CATAN boardgame (arguably the first euro designer game that started the current trend of euro-gaming). Competition format will be similar to our POWER GRID tournament held earlier this year, and this time we’ll be hosting the Catan Finals at upcoming MAGACON event, is Malaysia’s first annual independent analog and digital gaming convention.
QUALIFIERS. We are going to kickstart this with two qualifiers held this coming Saturday (Nov 26) afternoon at MEEPLES (SS15) and Boardgame Depot (Bangsar). Well gamers in these two venues need no further introduction to Catan and I’m sure we’ll be looking at some exciting sessions this Saturday.
We’ll move on next Saturday (Dec 3) as we move to our OTK Cheras and also FND Mindspot in TTDI which is an unassuming but happening meetup places for peeps around that area. Mindspot is run by a good fren of mine, Effendy whose speciality is giant games! Ah well.. so far no Giant Catan set yet but you never know.. 😛
note: Due to some unforeseen event, we are rescheduling Meeples (SS15) Qualifier to next Saturday ie. Dec 3. So in total we’ll have OTK on Friday (Dec 2) – which we might reschedule if the week looks too pack – and two qualifiers on Sat Dec 3 ie. FND Mindspot and Meeples.
The third Saturday (Dec 10) shall see us do the rounds at Mage Cafe (Damansara Jaya) and Comics Mart (Midvalley). Mage Cafe – to those veterans in the local boardgaming circuit – is home to one of our Malaysian Catan finalists (Ryan) and it’ll be brave souls who dare venture to Mage (but then again, only brave souls shall prevail in the Finals anyway).
Beside these qualifiers which will be held on consecutive Saturdays, we’ll also have a JIT (just-in-time) morning session on MAGACON Day One itself ie. Dec 17 from 10am – 1pm. So if you miss qualifying at one of the venues above, fret not… just drop in early to MAGACON and you might still snatch one of the last qualifying places. J

Dec 17 (Sat) 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm @ KDU Damansara (MAGACON)
Prize: Settlers of Catan 15th Anniversary Edition (with wooden box) worth USD150!
Entry Fee: Just purchase one MAGACON ticket (RM20) at competition venue. This ticket entitles you to attend MAGACON on both days.

How to register for the competition? How much is the entrance fee for the qualifier? 🙂

oops… forgot to reply this. Entrance fee is RM20 and you get a MAGACN ticket in return. Some venue may cover additional cover (up to them). OTK Cheras has no additional cover, and it’s on this Friday. Check out our recent sessrep on the BG Depot Qualifier for more info about the competition. You may come and see the 15th Anniversary Special Edition set this Friday at OTK.
